THE WORKBENCH / REPLACEMENT GUIDE
How to replace a shower door sweep
A sweep clips onto the bottom of the glass. Match the glass channel and the closed-door gap before trimming or fitting a replacement.
This guide covers clip-on sweeps on frameless swinging doors. Track-in seals and framed doors need their own profile and installation method.
Before you start
Have a ruler or caliper, the matched sweep, a cleaning cloth and the cutting tool recommended by the sweep manufacturer. Keep the door installed and supported by its hinges.
Identify the replacement first →Record the original profile
Photograph the end of the old seal and note the direction of any drip rail. Measure the bare glass thickness and the gap between the bottom of the glass and the curb with the door closed.
Choose the matching channel
Use the seal identifier to compare glass thickness, profile and documented gap. If the listing does not specify a gap, ask the supplier before ordering. A loose channel is not a substitute for the correct glass size.
Remove the old sweep
For a clip-on bottom sweep, carefully work it off the glass edge. If the old seal is bonded or held in a metal track, check that system’s removal instructions first. Avoid metal tools against the glass edge.
Clean and size the replacement
Clean the exposed glass and let it dry. Measure the required sweep length and mark the replacement. Cut only as the supplier instructs; do not cut while the sweep is on the glass.
Fit the new sweep
Press the channel evenly onto the bottom glass edge in the intended orientation. The eatelle listing specifies a push-on fit without adhesive; use the installation method for your chosen part.
Check motion and water direction
Open and close the door gently. The sweep should not make the door bind or lift. Confirm the drip rail faces the intended direction, then check for water escaping during use. If it drags, recheck the gap and profile with the supplier.
